I need time to collect my thoughts. But I promise you: in the very near future, I will speak further on this matter. And advise my fellow cinema lovers on how we should respond.

Nonetheless, we don't have the luxury of pretending this is not a catastrophic development for cinema, art, and storytelling itself.

The battle is far from over; the State of California, the federal government, and regulators both stateside and abroad will likely have something to say about this.

Years ago, Angus graciously granted me this interview, since we're both Portland-raised. Excited for his future in filmmaking!

Then, Angus directed "Lightyear." After it flopped, he was fired; a total injustice, given that the movie's failure to succeed at the box office was arguably the result of Disney dumping recent Pixar movies on Disney Plus, training audiences to watch them at home.

Angus is a real talent - longtime Pixar legend, crucial collaborator of Andrew Stanton ("Finding Nemo," "WALL-E").

There's very little one person can do to stop this. But imagine if everyone who cares about this said, "You know what? I would rather not watch the final season of 'Stranger Things' than support this soul-sucking, evil entity."

Netflix is not simply the enemy of cinema, they are the enemy of art itself. They have been working toward this moment for years, preparing to exert a monopoly over one of the very things that makes us human: storytelling.

You can say goodbye to theatrical superhero movies as well. Remember the ecstatic feeling of seeing James Gunn's "Superman" with a crowd of fans on opening weekend? That's done if Ted takes over. DC just becomes lost in the algorithm.

If Netflix wins, you can say goodbye to original theatrical films like "Sinners." No more beautifully shot, unique blockbusters made for IMAX by visionaries like Ryan Coogler. Ted Sarandos doesn't give a shit about brilliance; he just wants to entertain you while you're folding laundry.
