That war has led to the attack on Afganistan, Iraq, the revolution in Syria and Libya. Horrible violence and destruction are a result of his ego and arrogance.

Authoritarian leaders often like to make it extremely difficult for citizens to travel. When the economy crumbles or restrictions tighten, people can't leave the country.
