It was marketed as a children's educational toy (the German model has"lern-computer" on the box).

There are a couple educational games which require the laptop model, but I think only 2 have been dumped so far. They can be run in the emulator for it (SuperJunior SameDuck)

An obscure cpu clone of a #GameBoy won't support a system RTC date past 2011.

Found this Y2K12 bug while disassembling the system ROM of the #MegaDuck laptop model. The hardware itself could do it, but I guess they didn't think anyone would still use the console 15 years later (made in ~1995)

After your last thread I wrote a small gameboy program (inspired by "Telling LYs" by @pineight.com ) to make a button press scanline timing histogram.

My understanding is some emulators may inject entropy into button press timing since that may be used for RNG seeding.

Weird to charge for ROM of historical artworks (which aren't credited).

And the art suffers bad tile-attribute clash, would have looked a lot better in GBC hi-color.

Checking compatibility. #GBBoy Seal of Approval earned. Even though their clocks run fast the game stays in sync due to how it uses the 4 Player adapter.

Q: Is that older GBBoy Colour with a very scratched screen actually a color console?
A: No! They just changed light grey to red!

Lastly, here are the trends for toolchains in #gbcompo over time. As mentioned, mostly steady showing continued participation from all parts of the #Gameboy development community.

There's much more of a shift visible in music drivers.

For music drivers in #gbcompo25, #hugedriver is heavily preferred now but about ~12% of people still use #gbtplayer.

The only other music driver showing this time is #GBMod.

For SFX drivers #VGM2GBSFX has almost the entire share.

In the breakdown by version people are mostly using current releases (as in other gb jams) for #GBstudio, #GBDK and #ZGB when making games.

Though a few people use (much) older versions.

Now #SNES mouse works on #GameBoy Color, Pocket, SGB2, etc with Clock-out inverted. Some FPGA clones don't, though Analogue Pocket is ok.

The Hyperkin SNES mouse works too, with 1 byte offset. Movement is not as nice as Nintendo's, but useful since it's still being made.
