Not sure why anyone would consider buying anything Nest now. Getting a thermostat, smoke alarm, doorbell or anything else in the ecosystem will mean needing to replace them sooner than you'd plan for installed home devices.

The Tennessee Thumper aluminum baseball bat had a torpedo-shaped barrel 50+ years ago before anyone from MIT realized the design increased the sweet spot and maximized power on contact.
