Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! New York Comic Con is kicking off, and we've got Batman News reporters Chip and Chris on-site ready to break any news that might be coming out of it. Just yesterday it was announced that Absolute Catwoman is getting her own miniseries, and the convention is just getting started. Getting to cover NYCC last year was definitely one of my favorite memories at Batman News, so good luck to Chip and Chris!

Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have announced a multi-part Batman: Knightfall animated adaptation. One of the most famous stories in Batman lore for both giving us the introduction of Bane, and for the often-mimiced breaking of Batman's back, Knightfall is heading to home video. Announced at New York Comic Con on Friday, the new adaptation is set to be a multi-part event with the first installment launching in 2026.

Last month, I gave this book its first lukewarm review. The first you’ll find on this site, anyhow. I urged you, reader, to fear not. To trust in Misters Watters and Sherman to be cooking up something truly great. To trust that they would grace our shelves with something worthy of being the final act crescendo of this excellent piece.

During the DC: Gotham City panel, a spinoff from Absolute Batman was announced titled Absolute Catwoman. The miniseries will be six issues and will be written by Che Grayson and with Bengal on the art. Some story details include Selina adventuring in London and returning to Gotham. It wasn’t stated whether it’s a prequel to Absolute Batman or if it’s running parallel to it. The miniseries comes out in 2026.

Peacemaker season 2, episode 8 is now out on HBO Max and various other streaming sources around the world, and it's time to start discussing it. Did it live up to your hopes? Underwhelm? After a two and a half month break, Batman: The Last Halloween is back with the penultimate issue of the sequel series to The Long Halloween. It has been over a year since this series started, and we are finally nearing the conclusion. The journey to get here has been hit-or-miss, so can Jeph Loeb wrap up this story in a satisfying way?

The Quiet Man is on a quest for revenge, and the Dynamic Duo are caught in the middle of it. They will definitely won’t be able to watch a movie while this guy is rampaging through Gotham. Last issue was a great way to start the new story arc. Will issue #26 continue the momentum?  I thought this latest issue of Batman and Robin was another satisfying issue.

Somehow… Darkseid has returned. It’s all been leading to this. Ever since the “All In” era in DC began with the All In Special one-shot that dropped a year ago, many of the mainline titles like Joshua Williamson’s Superman run and Justice League Unlimited have been building up to this bombastic event. Now it’s time. There are 32 competitors but only one can be crowned “King Omega” to take on Darkseid.

Last we left off, Batman was in a very bad way. He only just barely escaped Ark M's tortuous prison with plenty of scars to prove it, his friends have all been mutilated into cruel mockeries of their former selves, and Bane is preparing to finally break his body and spirit. If there were ever a time to throw in the towel, now would seemingly be it.

Lasting from around 1970 until DC's reset of their universe with Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985, the Bronze Age of comics was when comics began to shed the childishly simple storytelling of the Silver Age in favor of darker and more complex narratives. In few places could this be seen more clearly than with Batman. In many ways it was both a return to his roots and when his comics as we know them came into being.

According to Constantine star Keanu Reeves, a new draft of the script for Constantine 2 has been turned in, and he's about to pitch it. Speaking with Fandango in support of his new movie Good Fortune, Reeves was asked about the status of Constantine 2, and said, "Yeah, fingers crossed. You know, another draft of the script came in.

Batman comics have been running for almost a century now, with decades upon decades of new villains, new Robins, and an ever evolving sense of who the Caped Crusader is. Despite all this, there's often a desire to go back to the stories set during his earliest years when things were simpler. They offer a chance to retell classic origins and expand upon older comics written before most people even had a TV set.

Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! There have been a lot of big announcements and new/ending titles in recent months (plus whatever's coming next week at NYCC), and sometimes I think how crazy it is to be able to cover all of it. It's a hobby where we've been able to come together and share our love for comics with each other and readers.

Cassandra, her brother Jade Tiger, and Jaya Jayesh are now on a journey to the Himalayas to meet with Nyssa al Ghul. Cass is still trepidatious about teaming with her once-enemy, Nyssa, but she will do what has to be done to deliver justice to the Unburied for Lady Shiva’s death. But at what point does justice become vengeance? Here are my thoughts on Batgirl #12.

Do you remember Tim Drake? It's understandable if you don't; sometimes it feels like neither do the people making comics. Believe it or not, he used to feature pretty heavily in a lot of Batman stories. That is, until around 2011 where he's sort of been without a home for the most part. Different writers have tried different approaches, but nothing quite seems to stick.

Happy anniversary! No, not an anniversary of mine. Not an anniversary of yours either, although if you are celebrating an anniversary by all means, happy anniversary. No, the anniversary I'm talking about right now is the anniversary of the Absolute Universe! Pretty much one year ago today we had the DC All-In Special, which created the universe with series like 

Last time we left our heroes protagonists, they were in the middle of recruiting for their heist. And we get a delightful bunch of characters that rarely get the spotlight as well as one new addition to the DC Universe. So, what does this issue bring? At this rate, I’m going to run out of adjectives to praise this series…

Gotham Academy was a surprise highlight of the New 52 era back in 2014. On the surface it seemed like just another high school book aimed at younger readers, and in some ways it was that, but it had so much heart with a compelling story and characters that it quickly gained a cult following (especially the breakout supporting character of Maps Mizoguchi).

This comic is pointless and you should not buy it. Not that I said pointless, not necessarily bad. While there are plenty of things to like in this comic, especially if you are fans of a certain character who we will get more into later, this comic functionally has no reason to exist. Its predecessor Dark Tomorrow at least had a plot centered around the time-displaced characters and was unique enough to kind of justify itself.

“Tune in tomorrow- same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!” -Desmond Doomsday So would certain episodes of the classic 1960s Batman television series end, enticing viewers to return the following night to see the resolution of that installment’s exciting cliffhanger. But how does one know when to tune in, exactly?  We know to come back at the “same Bat-time,” sure, but that would require some sort of timepiece or way to track the hours, would it not?

Wally West Flash, like Barry Allen before him, tries to stop the crisis, but vanishes in the process.

The choice to have Clayface practical makeup was never even a consideration for James Gunn. Appearing on The Morning After Pod, Gunn was asked about the Clayface set photos that have popped up online, and he confirmed that they don't bother him, but that led to a more interesting tidbit. He confirmed that due to the numerous outside scenes, there were discussions about whether or not the injury scars should be done with CGI to keep them from being photographed.
