@davemilbo.bsky.social I have somewhat taken your advice and left one plant uncaged. These are my sacrificial tomatoes to the rat/possum gods. My fear now is they get a taste for them and try and chew through the cages. Will keep you posted.

After 5 years of trying to grow tomatoes only for rats/possums to eat them all, I’m finally fighting back.

We keep our tree and presents behind the fireplace gates for this exact reason. The issue is I asked if he wanted to help with his mum’s and grandparents’ presents. Never again.

Oh for sure! Platypus is right up there too so maybe it’s a monotreme thing. We have Musk Lorikeets that visit us too but the cheeky King Parrot families that perch on our deck are always a highlight.
