My sister — about to turn 72 — did her very first solo protest today as part of #NoKings. She made her own two-sided sign using my foamcore stock and thick rainbow Sharpies, and bought a yellow sweater vest from a local thrift shop. I’m very proud.

Met the delightful @thespacegal.bsky.social Emily Calandrelli at my museum today; she did a book-signing meet & greet with hundreds of people from 10 AM until almost 3 PM, bubbly and engaged the whole time. STEM space astronaut rockstar with all the kids! (And staff …)

Too tired to seek out statewide results tonight on VA Dem primaries for LtGov and AG, but here are in-person day results from the precinct I worked. Precinct has 7,058 registered voters; VA does NOT register by party affiliation. 215 were issued absentee ballots; 101 voted early on machine.

My two-sided protest sign for today’s #NoKings event at #FairLakes in Fairfax, VA. I got very colorful when making my points on diversity and on “all” meaning “ALL!”

Thousands of cars passed our #NoKings protest on Fair Lakes Parkway in Fairfax, VA, and there were at least a hundred happy horns offsetting each rare flipped bird or derogatory shout. Multiply these 32 seconds to fill four hours …

I can’t draw for shit, but I love seeing the talent of others to inspire whatever I’m going to put on my “No Kings” sign today. I love that Penzey’s spices shared these signs from cooks around the country! www.penzeys.com/media/zp4pkv...

Yay for huge crowds and great spirit at the #HandsOff protest in DC! Folks were fired up, vocal, and more than a few were willing to commit to do more community organizing when they got home. @50501movement.bsky.social @indivisible.org

I’m ready for tomorrow’s “Hands Off!” protest in DC. My double-sided sign proclaims “HANDS OFF!” & “Government Workers & Services” on both sides, with different federal agency acronyms running around the borders & different topics on each side. My t-shirt is from @crew.bsky.social.

My President’s Day is sorted: I’ll be at the DC PolRev protest from noon-2PM Monday at the west side Union Square/Capitol reflecting pool. Track work on Silver & Orange Metro lines will add 30 mins to your trip if you’re coming in from VA.

I was up way too late yesterday to remain conscious past 2100, so I missed the show. But the full Moon in our high windows this morning was still spectacular!

Our breakfast fox visited for the second day in a row. S/he retrieved the remaining frozen squirrel from its snow-filled hidey hole (the deep dip in the backyard to which our swales drain) and carried it into the neighbor’s yard behind us, which is much less traveled than ours.

My highlight for today was our literal breakfast fox, who found a frozen squirrel in the corner of one of our bioretention planters. (We most often see foxes at our breakfast time, so we’ve teasingly referred to having “breakfast foxes.”)
