Everyone on this planet can agree that life would be easier if we all believed the same things, loved the same way, voted the same way. But we don’t.

Those who think their way is the “right” way ... are you prepared to compromise any of your beliefs towards this end? ... Don't expect it of others.

When you hear guys like Stephen Miller joke "there goes the neighborhood" because minorities have entered their community, understand that they don't WANT ethnic groups to assimilate

That's why racial covenants prohibiting people from selling to these people-including Jews-were legal until 1968
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

In QP today, Andrew Scheer denounced carbon capture as "burying air," which is wild considering how they went to bat for Pathways against greenwashing rules.
Aside from the very, very big policy questions raised by the MOU, one curious subplot that intrigues me is that the Alberta premier and the federal Conservative leader are talking very differently about this agreement.

I'm not sure how that plays out.

Such a great way of explaining it. Gotta take this one to school.
“It’s cold today—so much for global warming!”

Weather is like your mood, while climate is your personality. One cold day doesn’t disprove global trends. In fact, warming can even disrupt weather patterns and cause some of the wild swings we see today!

I trust that Albertans will show the UCP not to fuck with our charter rights... As shown through all the recall petitions. However I wish the feds would enforce the healthcare act and not allow Alberta to privatize health care. We're just going to waste millions of more $$ and the poor will die

"I know the member opposite likes to think himself as judge, jury and executioner, but we do have due process in this province," Smith said.
So that's why she invoked the Notwithstanding Clause to deny affected trans youth the ability to challenge her laws in court, right?
What a fucking hypocrite.

"Ten years ago, when Carney issued his warning about the dangerous future, we still had summers. Now we have fire season."
Who’s gaming who?
There is no political, economic or environmental case for even pretending to consider Northern Gateway pipeline.
Mark Carney has given a huge with to Danielle Smith while reviving the environmental conflicts of Stephen Harper.
This is a huge mistake.

Did you know there is a Thanksgiving placemat that, if you follow its instructions, will resolve political conflict?

Who hasn't felt hiraeth at least once?
Hiraeth (HEE-reyeth)
(n.)
- An intense longing for a home you can’t return to, or that never was.

Used in a sentence:
“And evermore, deep in his small and ancient brest, there stirred a sorrow sharp as winter wind—a hiraeth for the numinous lands of Faerie that slipt into legend many ages agone.”

They’re certainly making the argument that they definitely can afford to pay WAY MORE taxes
Since 2000, political donations from the richest 100 Americans have increased nearly 140x.

They collectively spent over $1B in 2024, amounting to 1 in every 13 dollars spent during the election.

Is it any wonder why so many regular people feel like they no longer have a voice?

Governing a de facto one-party state gives the Alberta government the idea that these tools will always be used against their enemies when in fact they tend to be more often used for internecine violence. There is a reason premiers rarely get a chance to contest a second election in the province.
The UCP: you should be able to fire your MLA, here’s a handy-dandy recall process.

How had I never heard of him?
Reading Wikipedia, I learned a few more nuggets: that he also created “The Avengers” (who in 1961 were considerably less campy before the departure of Ian Hendry); produced the first televised CFL game, and inspired Arthur Hailey, who wrote “Airport".
Thanks, Nudsy.
Today is Doctor Who Day, which honours the day that Doctor Who premiered on the BBC in 1963.
The TARDIS, The Doctor and many other aspects of the show are thanks to its co-creator, Sydney Newman of Toronto.
