Especially since straight, white men are a minority and not even all of them are conservative! You don't have to win everybody, and moreover, you shouldn't try - if there's one thing that won't win over insecure, aspiring "alpha males" it's the cloying, insincere desperation of courting their vote

This is what bugs me about a billion "Democrats need to reach out to young men" think pieces. There is no way to appeal to reactionary identity politics without compromising on egalitarian values. Maybe the strategy should be to pick a coalition and advocate for it over and against other interests

They're used to candidates-elect immediately folding to moneyed interests after election. To not do that appears to them to be a violation of an implicit norm. Sure you can promise hope and change on the campaign trail, but you better pick up Bill Ackman's phone calls.
