I'm a bag of gastropods recovering from burnout
Uh I started taking trulicity and uh... Huh. Is this how people normally feel all the time? Like is the average person not always hungry and wanting food in the back of their mind clawing at their awareness?

Watching friend start Silksong for the first time is a weird experience because I wind up waiting with bated breath to see if they hate it as much as I do, or if they enjoy it like the weirdoes I know they are.

Dipping your toes into the cosmere is a lot like being a detective going insane trying to solve a conspiracy.

But like in a fun way

I was a very happy Patron of Elaine's and only stopped because of my income level. If I had more disposable income I'd still be patron to this day.
And now it's dropped to the lowest it's been in years, OOF. It's uh...not great. No new folks last month either, so need to make up a chunk of loss ^_^;

So if you have a couple of bucks to spare a month, the $1~$5 tiers are the lifeblood of a patreon. It might not feel like enough, but it builds up
This is the lowest my patreon has been in months. My follower count 100% doesn't equate to even real ppl who care about my stuff, there were so many blue wave ppl back when it all started that follow thousands & never see my stuff.

BUT if just 1.4% of followers here joined at $2 a month we'd be set

Elaine's Patreon is great, btw. If you like their art I highly recommend it.

I'm trying so hard to keep an open mind about #Silksong but I keep running into design decision after design decision that has created an experience that feels like team cherry spent 7 years hand crafting an experience and then gave me a giant middle finger for not being good enough at games

The narrative of artists be ultra wealthy elites gatekeeping cool stuff is entirely a fabrication of people with a vested interest in paying them as little as possible and charging you as much as possible for their work

artists aren’t the fucking bourgeois or “elite”. every artist i know can barely make rent. every artist i know is one severe enough hospital bill away from being homeless. we’re not all banksy or andy warhol. sick of this idea being passed around as we deal with companies exploiting us constantly.

srsly. lol how soon we forget.

We weren't "fine." When people say that, what they mean is "I have never personally heard stories of anything bad." Which is the shittiest metric possible.

Raw milk killed people. It still kills people, but it used to kill more. It should never be considered safe.
When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"

That's... usually not the case!

In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.

We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?

really this applies to all creative fields, it took a hot second for me to accept edits and feedback not as a personal slight against my skill but rather a desire for a better final outcome.
Something that *all* indie authors need to learn to do, at all ages, it take constructive criticism.

If someone points out that you may need to refine your work due to excessive description, lack of description, stilted sentences, grammar, etc, take the advice with grace.
