As Herr Trump takes over the Kennedy Center, it is worth noting that he isn’t the first authoritarian to take a special interest in the arts. I doubt however that he could pull together an exhibition as interesting as Entartete Kunst.

I wish peace to the soul that was lost this evening on the Metrolink San Bernardino tracks, under the wheels of the train I am on. I suppose with the number of hopeless, mentally ill, those impaired or lost, it is a wonder this doesn’t happen every day. Our humanity is collective, and it is shared.

I’m back in the office for the first time since watching all of season 1 of Severance. The lighting here is so even and diffuse. The air systems offer a steady white noise. The break room is so tidy. It is unnerving.

Buckminster Fuller said that we have all of the technology and all of the resources necessary to provide food, water, and energy to everyone. This is still true. Sustainability is not an engineering problem. It is a problem of human spirit.

I am an architect, working to steer our built environment towards sustainability. To an observer, and in light of ongoing climate and political disasters, this might seem like a disheartening pursuit. It is not.
