Is this the movie where the producers killed off Joseph Cotten early on because they ran out of money to pay him?

A nice performance from Ridges who changes from amiable Professor to tough gangster. I'm sure Ridges was English by birth. I know he died relatively young.

Thinking about it, in his prologue to the book, he did cast doubt on the truthfulness of some of the stories but had included them for entertainment value. It seems the production never happened, so that wonderful story is, unfortunately, completely false.

It was included in a glorious book of theatre anecdotes by Ned Sherrin.

No, it was verified by several witnesses.

"Not a comfortable watch", feels like understatement, my friend👍

And then came her infamously bad performance as Anne in a stage production of "The Diary of Anne Frank'.

This is one I've never seen. And having read up about it, it's going to stay that way.

Like James Cameron working on Aliens a few decades later, he seemed frustrated by the British crew. There were definite cultural and working differences, but the finished result should put all complaints to rest.

The boxset does include a documentary, which is the next best thing. Thanks for the heads-up about the books. I'll see if I can chase down copies.

Corman had a very negative view of the English crew working on this production, regarding them as too slow and bound by union rules. He believed it would have been a better movie if it had been made in the US. (Making no mention of free use of the gorgeous sets left over from Becket, and a tax levy)

It's not violence. It's revenge. (There's a movie tagline for you😃)

But they find themselves hilarious. Like teenagers sniggering at their own private joke.

Personally, I'd give the disrespectful idiots on MS etc a bit of a slap!

Well, it's no classic, but who cares when it's so entertaining? Nicely referenced in, I think, The Bowery Murders, when Lugosi walks past a cinema with a poster advertising this movie.
