I think it’s great that our media elites have decided that men in their 30s saluting Hitler are just rambunctious kids who got carried away, while 16-year old girls being trafficked and raped by billionaires are “underage women” making informed choices. Definitely reflects well on us as a society.

at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

In response to yesterday's OGI video of methane pollution there was a request for OGI showing emissions from a wind turbine. Here is a good comparison of emissions from a flare stack vs emissions from two nearby wind turbines.

Is there a good example of an existing left or left-ish big (or medium size) city mayorship in the US that hasn't demoralized the coalition that got it elected (via, e.g., reflexive moral compromise or abandonment of key campaign promises)?

In law school I had a professor who referred to the use of passive voice as “weasel words.” This is a heaping pile of weasel words.

“ended up having sex”??? How does someone’s brain even weasel their way into writing that sentence?
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9

Remembering how Biden revived the practice of releasing visitors logs and was rewarded by the press for his transparency with a front page story at his weakest possible moment about how he had Parkinson's based on a Parkinson's expert visiting the WH.

(Turns out, Biden did not have Parkinson's)

Ah, at long last we can finally admit that Piss Christ was just facile provocation
This is what male solidarity & collective action to oppress women looks like:

Artist Andres Serrano--successful, but nowhere near the same class as Thiel & other billionaires in the files--stating that he'll vote for Trump, despite his politics, out of *sympathy* with T's sexual assaults on women.

proper gents are getting mad in my replies for being so arrogant to refer to temperature in the local parlance!!!
Correct. The free world uses Celsius. It's arrogant to assume that anyone would assume some alternative and archaic system of measurement.

Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

I feel like what is bipartisan is car brain. From the feds to the states to the cities. It's going to take work to get in there and wrench control away from the "car-centered everything" paradigm.
After the law went into effect, we find that it produced a major boost in spending on streets/highway-related investment, adjusted for inflation.

But spending on non-streets/highway investment, like rail transit, flatlined. States & cities *reduced* spending on rail transit after the law passed.

turns out if you want people to live car-free you need to emphasize the safety and accessibility of modes that aren't cars
Remember all the hype about how Uber and Lyft would allow people to live car-free?

Well, it turns out ridehail has no discernible impact on car ownership at all.

this truly is one of the absolute worst decisions the supreme court has ever made. there's obviously others on the list along with it, but castle rock v gonzales belongs on the bottom 10
In 1999, a woman named Jessica Gonzales sought and obtained an order of protection against her physically abusive husband ("AH"), who had repeatedly threatened to kill her and their three children. The order included language specifically limiting when and where AH was allowed to see the children.
