This article fails to mention why there were no emergency stocks of PPE. My understanding is the Tories privatised a storage facility near Manchester airport that held a strategic stock and then failed to pay for it’s upkeep.

Nostalgia for the GDR or being taken over by the FRG are less convincing explanations.
However for me the big omission was the whole issue of Russian influencing via media and the Russian funding etc of the Far Right in Germany and across Europe generally.

As to the differences between GDR and FRG states she imho correctly identifies the differences in education of the populations, while we in the West were subjected to denazification propaganda and the realities of Russia actions during and post war, for the GDR this was swept under the carpet. 3/x

explanation for their energy cooperation, here I disagree I see it as much more about money, cheap energy to power the economy and generate wealth. The West and Germany quite content for her to make quality kit and stay out of geopolitics. Why Germany has been so slow now to step up decisively. 2/x
