I started in art school, got bullied out of that by family. Took up linguistics but got so disillusioned with the academy when working on my PhD dissertation. Left, ended up as a gov accountant working on a BS. Now I draw again as a hobby after ~20 years and I’m excited to tell stories

I took all next week off so I’m reviewing my year end goals to see what I catch up on. I’m pretty sure I can’t read 71 books, learn to code a website, write 50k words, level up my art skills, publish one chapter of my comic project, and master three chords on my mandolin all in one week

One of my classes had me doing career assessments and I got back “paleontology illustrator” as a suitable career. And part of me is so mad because I coulda been drawing ding dang dinosaurs this whole time for a living?!

Valley of despair is real but it’s why consistent practice is important! Practice until the understanding is scarred into long term memory
The difference between "I don't know how to draw this" and "I understand how to draw it better next time" is such an important thing in art.
That first step is scary and for some makes us feel like a failure, but push forward and grow. Wonderful things will come.
