I've had an issue where some areas were repelling the varnish. No mediums, just paint and a little gamsol odorless mineral spirits for thinning/underpainting. Never figured out why, I just had to keep layering it in. The dog/horse did not have this issue

I love applying varnish to a painting, when all the colors liven up a little bit. It's like using the 'auto tone' or 'auto contrast' feature in photoshop, but with real paint.

I do an oil painting at a local festival every year, here is this years painting demo. I couldn't decide which skull I wanted to paint, so I tried to paint both. A baby goat and raven skull I found in the woods foraging over the past years.
