My frustration with this kinda thing has been building for a while and earlier I kinda lashed out at someone I consider a friend partly because they did something like this, which wasn't their fault and I'm mostly frustrated at the situation and myself

Idk, maybe I'm the problem here, it just sucks

Which is obviously annoying but the worse part IMO is that it's become so normalized and ubiquitous that otherwise well-meaning and broadly good-faith people have started doing it too, it's like it's the default mode of discourse now
December 7, 2025 at 2:35 AM
And as a result it feels like nowadays, short of crossing certain societal taboos, you can get away with saying practically anything and never face any kind of pushback as long as you frame it as a joke and go "it's not that deep bro" afterwards, and it makes me feel powerless
December 7, 2025 at 2:35 AM
Intentional or not, it feels like an effect of this type of discourse is that if you take issue with a "hot take" of this type and respond with an actual argument, *you* come off looking like the asshole for ruining the fun and taking things too seriously, which I'm already insecure about doing
December 7, 2025 at 2:35 AM
Like, I'm autistic, and while all things considered I'm *pretty* well-adjusted to society I'm still extremely self-conscious about coming off as overzealous or a buzzkill for responding sincerely to a joke
December 7, 2025 at 2:35 AM
I'm not innocent of it but I usually try to clarify my actual feelings after doing a bit because I fucking hate being on the receiving end of this shit

To me it feels like a way to dodge sincere discussion, to leave room to go "it's not that deep bro" when someone questions you

The funny part is this is only the games I spent at least a couple hours on, there are plenty of others that I booted up for a single half-session before moving on lmao

I really struggle to finish games these days, to an extent I always have but it's gotten worse in recent years

114. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (currently playing)

Really mixed feelings on this one. The underwater combat is cool, I love the vibes, and LR Village is mostly great, but HR Village health pools are WAY too fucking big and I'm really not yet sure how I feel about the game's turbo grindy structure

113. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (currently playing)

Monster Hunter's core combat at its peak, and damn is it a blast. I still prefer GU for its variety of tools and monsters, but there's a hell of a lot to love here, and it's my second favorite in the series. Really needs a modern port, though

112. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (currently playing)

A dramatic step up from base World in terms of fight design, and I'm still loving every second of it. The new hub is great and the vibes are just as fantastic as they were in the base game

111. StarCraft II, Multiplayer (currently playing)

Yeah this is straight-up my favorite multiplayer game of all time, and I'm having just as much fun as I did when I was first getting into it back during HotS over a decade ago

110. Monster Hunter Dos (dropped)

Genuinely crazy to me that the team that made a game this bad twice in a row was allowed to continue
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 AM
109. Monster Hunter Tri (shelved)

I am very rarely in the right headspace for this kind of cozygame-adjacent structure. One day I'll probably come back and finish it, though. It's got amazing vibes and some surprisingly cool unique features

108. Monster Hunter World (completed)

This game REALLY grew on me over time. I tried and failed to get into it twice and even after I started to love Monster Hunter it took a while to grow on me, but these days I fucking love it. The combat is still really solid and the vibes are off the charts
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 AM
107. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (shelved)

Really want to play more of this at some point. It's third gen Monster Hunter without the underwater combat, and also without High Rank Village quests or a G Rank, but still with spectacular cozy vibes
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 AM
106. Look Outside (dropped)

I think most people would love this game. I am not most people. Since Metaphor blackpilled me on JRPG "resource management" I've been unable to stomach it in anything, and this game leans into it SUPER hard. Awesome fucking soundtrack and vibes though

105. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (completed)

My favorite Monster Hunter game, and one of my favorite games of all time. The sheer variety of fun-to-use options (even if there are balance issues) and unparalleled monster roster just put this game over the top for me. A masterpiece

104. Monster Hunter Rise (completed)

The game that got me into Monster Hunter, and still among my favorites. It was the subject of my fifth and thus far final review of the year backloggd.com/u/Azdamine/r...
Azdamine's review of Monster Hunter Rise | Backloggd
If you’re the kind of person who wants to get into Monster Hunter but has always struggled to, I recommend you start here. Rise was not my first Monster Hunter game - if we get really technic...

103. Monster Hunter Wilds (shelved with prejudice)

Look how they massacred my favorite combat system
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 AM
102. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (shelved)

Some of the best combat in any video game ever made. Unfortunately everything else is pretty mid. The open-world exploration can be a lot of fun but I'm just not really enjoying the story shit and the minigames are mostly super whatever
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 AM
101. WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos (shelved)

It's still an RTS made by Blizzard in their prime, and I still enjoy it, but it stands well below both SC games for me. I just don't really love its de-emphasis of macro, its awkward game feel, and its (at least for me) much weaker vibes. Solid story tho
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 AM
100. StarCraft: Brood War, Multiplayer (shelved)

I fucking LOVE this game, and it's probably the single deepest video game ever created, but man oh man is it exhausting to play well. I need a break after each game, lmao
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 AM
99. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm (replay, shelved)

Definitely a step down from Wings in both mission design and storytelling, but I love playing Zerg so much that I can't help but love it anyway, and it's still got its fair share of fun missions and toys
