Our weekly Sunday email is jam-full of events to join, actions to take, and ideas to jolt your thinking. Why is Arizona's budget like a tiny pizza? Who's breaking through the clamor? What unmet new friends are waiting for you to join them? buff.ly/hGPJH4o

We've shunned Target, picketed Tesla, & canceled Disney--what's next? How about good for a change 🤩? ULTA BEAUTY has terminated selling through Target and is proudly standing by diversity, equity & inclusion because beauty is for everyone! buff.ly/rPCmWzz #UpliftGood

Why do so many Americans not vote? Pride in civic action has declined, & participation is duty, not a triumphant, joyful opportunity. On election day, post your sticker or image of you excitedly going to vote? "Social proof" is a powerful tool to inspire others to do the same.

Take on crypto corruption at a virtual rally with Chris Murphy and Tina Smith this Tuesday, 6:30pm ET / 3:30pm PT. The Senate may soon take up a bill that’d enshrine crypto corruption and cement a massive giveaway to crypto billionaires. #NoKings @indivisible.org us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...?

Our privatized health care system is unaffordable for millions of working Arizonans, which the ACA helped to fix. Now billionaires think even that's too much. Remember what the govt shutdown is about: media outlets are "keeping score" without discussing the stakes: remember what we're fighting for!

Even as Arizonans shatter energy usage records, using over 17,000 megawatts a day (!!), big corporations like Amazon want to blanket our state with their energy-guzzling data centers 🙅🏼‍♀️👎🏼🚫
August 8, 2025 at 11:06 PM
It's ironic to see the @tucsonagenda.bsky.social article on Project Blue's demise run with this AI-generated image when AI is what's driving data center proliferation.

If we don't want data centers here, we must refuse to drive demand — ie, we must use far less AI.

Trump and federal Republicans' $1.1 billion cut to public broadcasting will hit stations in AZ tribal communities especially hard, leaving them scrambling to fill budget gaps — & perhaps turning some parts of rural AZ into media deserts.

DRAINING RESOURCES: With temps soaring, APS & SRP customers broke energy demand records this month. But data centers want to set up shop in AZ, & demand could triple if every data center that wants to build here is allowed to. #ClimateCrisis #EnergyCrisis

#AZLeg Republicans balked at investments like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. They refused to place even the most modest common-sense guardrails on AZ's runaway $1 billion universal voucher program. But flying cars? Sign them up. 🤦🏼‍♀️

And then there's this guy 👇🏼 (#AZLeg Senate Majority Leader John Kavanagh) who says it doesn't matter because the only people losing coverage are people he doesn't care about

You have no idea how eagerly we have been awaiting this announcement. #AZLeg #SineDie

ANOTHER VETO: Gov. Hobbs just vetoed HB2610, which would automatically fire the entire board of any school district that goes into receivership and automatically dismiss its superintendent. Calls it “blatant legislative overreach.” 🎯 So glad we have a governor who will protect democracy!

Big abuser vibes coming out of the House Appropriations Committee this morning. "I don't want to hurt you but you're making me / I wish I could stop." Making it clear House Republicans intend to hurt Arizonans if they don't get exactly what they want out of this year's budgeting process.

The names in green listed below just voted to give $500 million in taxpayer dollars to a private, for-profit billionaire. For shame.

This does not bode well for state budget talks. The toddler in the checkout line has collapsed to the floor and is demanding a new toy.

This is America's plutocracy at work 👇

We invite you to ponder the message in this picture as the #AZLeg Senate poises itself to pass tax giveaway #HB2704, which gives $500 million of your hard-earned tax dollars to a private billionaire

🚨 STADIUM GIVEAWAY BILL MOVING! #HB2704 is in Senate Rules and Caucus today. This procedural step lines it up to get a full Senate vote tomorrow & then proceed to the governor's desk. Say NO to tax handouts for billionaires! Contact your senator TODAY: buff.ly/fdJRDpu

MISSING IN ACTION: Thanks to Rep. @SarahKLiguori for this list of important funding priorities missing from this year's negotiated #AZLeg budget. Contact your state reps & state senator to ask them to include these items 🧵

House Republicans plan to come to the floor to try to pass their own budget on Wednesday.

It's DOA, of course. But apparently they have to go through the exercise of watching it go up in flames before they get serious about negotiating.

21 days before AZ shuts down. #AZLeg

The #AZHouse announced today it's going on vacation until June 4.

The deadline for them to pass a budget or shut down the state is June 30.

NEW WEEKLY! Reaching a budget agreement with yourself is not as impressive as some Republican lawmakers seem to think it is... assuming it's even true.

NO THANKS: Gov. Hobbs vetoes another 12 bills. Another 14 CEBV-opposed bills still sit on her desk; we're watching for more veto action tomorrow.
