I'm staying at a hotel at the top of the Continental and Commercial Bank Building, downtown Chicago, which Daniel Burnham designed shortly before his death. The floors are freshly remodeled, but they left the flaking staircase untouched. Burnham never walked here, but maybe someone who knew him did.

Surprised to check into my staycation hotel room and get this view from above of one of my favorite Chicago buildings, Burnham and Root's Rookery Building. How do I get access to that little rooftop courtyard?!
