Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

BREAKING: ‘This hurts’: UNL eliminates 4 programs despite faculty, student pleas
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln eliminates the Earth and atmospheric sciences 8-0, educational administration 7-1, statistics 7-1, textiles, merchandising and fashion design 7-1 programs.

learn an instrument, join a band, spend your teenage years and your twenties killing your bad brain cells and your eardrums with a bunch of other dopey stoners from a wide variety of backgrounds and gender preferences, you come out on the other side with only good brain cells, it's science
If it weren't for a positive chance encounter at 19, I could have easily fallen into that. We men really need to make an effort to put the young dudes we encounter onto positive paths. Don't ask me how, I don't know.

The Lewis Chessmen

These 12th-century chess pieces are packed with personality, and have such charmingly expressive eyes! ♟️ 👀

I think it’s clear he is just fundamentally opposed to the rule of law for powerful people and thinks corruption is good, actually, and those who do it are sympathies, relatable, and it’s unfair to punish them
Using his clemency power, Trump has undone prosecutions made by his own DOJ during his first term.

Experts say the actions show a broad contempt for the justice system: “He’s rejecting ... the work of people he appointed but didn’t fully control.”

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we remember the bright and courageous trans people whose lives were stolen by hatred. Their absence is felt across our city.

We will honor them by building a New York where every trans person can live safely, fully and freely.

I think democrats should push for a thorough review of all Elon Musk govt contracts as part of their 2026-8 portfolio. Why are taxpayers financing the work of a racist near-trillionaire? Leaving that unexamined was one of the biggest failures of the last Dem majority.

What is happening at Goddard is absolutely devastating. We are losing history. We are losing an incredible amount of human talent, skill, and knowledge. Rebuilding it will be impossible same for same. Industry can not absorb the people or the equipment. This is undoing space science in the US.

The letter, signed so far by more than 200 rabbis, rejects the idea that Mamdani's pro-Palestinian activism reflects hatred of Jews.
