I read, write, hike, listen to music, and attempt to be a friend to people. That's what takes up most of my time. My wife and I live in southern Arizona, where a big wall of mountains looms in front of our house. It's beautiful, and I'm thankful for that.
A nephew’s son, a son-in-law, a sister-in-law, me, a daughter, and a wife in a Georgian restaurant in Philly. “Georgian,” in this case, refers to a bunch of dishes beginning and ending in “kh.”

I watched "The Exorcist" yesterday, more than 50 years after my first viewing.

I was amazed by just how slowly the plot develops. Virtually nothing happens during the first half hour; there's a lot of pensive walking by the main characters. This film could not be made in 2025.

Where was MAGA empathy when Melissa Hartman and her husband were assassinated? Where was that empathy when Nancy Pelosi's husband was brutally beaten?

MAGA's empathy is very selective and subject to many litmus tests. Otherwise, it's a sin and a sign of wokeness.

Here are some of Kirk's beliefs.

This is the "grab 'em by the pussy; you can do anything" guy we're talking about, right? Where you been, J.D.? Hell yes, this sounds exactly like Donald Trump.

Yes to all of this. This is manufactured fear and panic. It's not real, at least until the masked ICE Gestapo shows up. THAT's real enough. Yay. But it is absolutely true that none of this needed to happen. I'm a few miles from the Mexican border. You know what? It's quiet. Has been for a while.

88 degrees at 8:00 a.m. in Tucson, headed to 112.

It's a dry heat. And it is, much like your Ninja Pizza Oven. It's brutal, but I'll still take it over 34 degrees and sleet in Ohio for five solid months. And the sky is blue and the mountains are big, and that doesn't get old.

Over 5,000,000 Americans participated in No Kings protests on Saturday. Trump's Happy Birthday to Me! party drew fewer than 20,000 people. For a guy obsessed with numbers, it's got to be discouraging. Oh well.

This was the scene at the Minnesota capital of Saint Paul yesterday afternoon. Every one of these people had been urged not to attend this No Kings demonstration because a deranged shooter who had just assassinated Democratic politicians was still on the loose. They showed up anyway.

In spite of what the Orange Fascist and Fox News will tell you, this country was founded on protest, including protest involving destruction of property. Shown here: the Boston Tea Party, December 16, 1773

Cognitive dissonance is rough. It can make you feel bad, and in extreme cases even make you question old, intractable assumptions. For FBI director Kash Patel, the mantra is "Don't think about January 6, 2021." That can lead to cognitive dissonance. Find some nearby sand and bury your head.

I live in a city an hour north of the Mexican border, where half of my neighbors are Hispanic. They enrich my life. I'm thankful for them.

Donald Trump et. al. are out of their twisted, hateful minds. Don't believe their bullshit. They're lying. There is no invasion. Only neighbors.

Sometimes it's a good idea to storm the beaches. Today is a good reminder of that. Sometimes it's a good idea to just sit back and watch.

Anyone who has paid the least bit of attention to these raging megalomaniacs knew this time was coming. May they tear each other to pieces.

For a minute. Possibly even for up to a day. I do recognize that the world's most powerful fascist threat it still somebody's dad, uncle, etc. I'll try to honor that.

For a minute, maybe a day. But the world will be a better, safer place. On Day 2, I will rejoice. My lips to God's ears.

Why? Why?

Surely even the staunchest, most unquestioning MAGA cult members don't believe this. Do they? Are we so far gone as a society? Someone please convince me that the President of the United States isn't mentally deranged.

I'm live from near the epicenter of the invasion. Millions, perhaps even hundreds, of illegal banditti have breached the border about an hour south of me.

We shelter uneasily from deep within our bunkers.

I'm not sure that insulting and trolling Catholics (and more than half of the American ones voted for him) is really the best strategy for uniting the base.

They are base, though. There's so much here that is beyond comprehension, starting with the notion of Donald Trump as a Holy Father.

I saw this and thought "No way. That can't possibly be real."

It's real.

Psych practitioners will be studying our current world well into the 23rd century. Everything has been turned upside down. Everything.

Another day of gang warfare, drug infestation, chaos and anarchy near the southern border. Let's declare martial law.

I try to acknowledge Holy Week every year. Here's my acknowledgement for 2025.

The MAGA cult will be mystified, no doubt. They don't like us! Why?

"Palestinian" is now apparently the all-purpose "sonofabitch." Gaza upon him, your racist overlord.

Campy images aside, I do think this statement is mostly accurate.

A brief break from the sledgehammer approach to government management.

Saguaro National Park East, 15 minutes from home, on a bright blue 80-degree day. Always good for the soul.

Indeed. Jesus? I vaguely recall that guy. Perhaps other Christians who have not been captured by MAGA nationalism do too.

But I also believe that all of us live our lives as if someone or someones know our name. I think it's good that we do this. Such a thought provides connection, community. I wish connection and community for all of us in the coming days, weeks, years. We're going to need it.
