Here's something that takes seconds and could have actual positive outcomes.

There is an official 'citizen's petition' system in the EU. There's one open at the moment to ban conversion therapy for LGBT+ people in the EU.

Ireland can be 1 of the 7 nations needed

“You’re talking about probably a million and half people, and we just clean out that whole thing.” - Trump to media yesterday.

Reported widely verbatim today. Not a single outlet I have seen so far mentions that forced displacement of civilians is a war crime.

This is where we are now.

Heart shattering to learn an Israeli drone has targeted and assassinated Mahmoud Almadhoun, one of the founders and chefs behind the Gaza Soup Kitchen.

What started as four pots and essential ingredients in Bait Lahia had grown into a remarkable effort to feed 3,000 people daily.

That whole strategy - making Sinn Féin and other parties on the left look like "traitors" over the immigration issue - involved allowing agitators to cause riots in central Dublin, burn down asylum centres and derelict buildings and attack canvassers with total impunity.

Far right were strategically pushed out to deflate Sinn Féin before the local elections; the general election was called as soon as it was clear that stroke worked. The media hate spigot will shut down now and the useful idiots on the far right will go back to being just idiots.
Far Right doing badly in Irish Election, despite massive promotion*.

Really useful indication of where the far right are, in terms of % of the first preference in the boxes opened, per constituency. Ireland is bucking the trend of European countries turning to far right.
🧵 How far-right/National Alliance candidates are doing based on mid-morning tallies #GE24.

These will likely have changed by the time most people read them, but give an indication of the state of play this morn.

Have also omitted some candidates in constituencies where no data was available yet.

Bear in mind also that first preferences determine state funding for parties until the next election.
May be worth considering if there's a candidate from a party who aren't in the running but you'd like to support them on an ongoing basis.
And the beauty of the system is you can still transfer on

I wish more people understood this. "Holding your nose" & voting all the way down the ballot is exactly how you elect FFG on the 15th count or whatever.
I don't want to bring a Twitter vibe over here, but filling down all the way is precisely how you dilute your vote power.

As a salient example Simon Harris was picking up still at the 12th count when people could have stopped when the competent candidates ran out. See also; Stephen Donnelly.

Short answer:

No. Peadar lied. Aontú lie. It's not surprising. #GE24
At this week's immigration debate, Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín presented a startling figure.

“One third of all hospitality outside the M50 are currently in a contract with the state to provide accommodation,” he said.

The evidence, however, says something else:

FactCheck: Are a third of hotels and B&Bs outside the M50 used to house asylum seekers?
Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín said he could back up his claim with a published Parliamentary Question.
