I've tried. I really have tried!
Since when i was little.
Just can't seem to do it.
It's always easier not to think for oneself. Find a nice safe hierarchy and settle in. Don't make changes, don't risk disapproval, don't upset your syndics. It's always easiest to let yourself be governed.

ICANN Bylaws waving in the wind: ICANN is currently debating a bylaws amendment to require a review of reviews. At the same time they are debating the approval of the latest IANA review (IFR2) - seems they should wait on any review approvals until after they have finished reviewing reviews.

A conjecture:

If we do not discriminate
betwixt this type or that,
We all remain omnivore.
It is our biology.
No vegans or carnivores,
nor pescatarians or vegetarians;
they delude themselves.
They are all omnivores:
neither delusion
nor growth
can change that?

No transvores in this world to see!

Other than being a wonderfully advanced form of democratic governance, one of the aspects that appeals to me most about Multistakeholder Processes, like those recommended in the Sao Paulo Multistakeholder Guidelines, is that they come in many varieties and mixes. Nothing is "ever one size fits all."

Going back & forth between
EuroDIG in Strasbourg & RIPE in Lisbon.
Not multitasking, but timesharing:
picking & choosing for my online pleasure.

I like both.
They are different.
Like two sides of me?

Both refer to non-speakers
as audience
& then wonder
why few speak.

& both have many rules.

for those with absent mothers:
how are you doing today?
happy day, remembering good stuff?
sad day, remembering absence?
bit of both.

I thank MSNBC for streaming its stories as highlights
- the presentation gets better all the time
- very helpful to those of us without cable or some other subscription.

I just wish they would date&time stamp them.

Got my tickets for Oslo #IGF2025. Looking forward to being onsite in a favorite place, one with a decent human rights record.

Going via Iceland. Did not arrange an extended stopover, but if I have funds, my ticket is changeable, I would like to spend a day, two or more in Iceland on the way back.

Recently, was musing on gaming
and the best of all games:
accusations of gaming.

Currently walking to the Iliad by Homer, with a marvelous new translation by Emily Wilson.

I've sung praises of the gaming skill of ICANN and its people.
Troy, Greece, and the Gods of Olympus have much to teach us.

Observed the 1st meeting of the 2025 MAG.
A MAG composed only of those who had served before, all-stars from the past.
Though all came from MAGs with differing IGF historical processes, they were mostly able to decide that they did not need to spend time reworking process this time around. Bravo.

Wondering, are the strings MAG & MAGA confusingly similar acronyms?

They seem to be Typo-susceptible.

Perhaps it is good year, while the IGF is (re)casting itself in the image of the GDC and before the UNGA decides on its future,
to rename of the group in consideration of the age we are entering.

With news of DeepSeek, yet to confirmed & digested, a consequence of restricting technology raises her head. We forgot that the Mother of Invention often comes to fulfill the necessity others have for a solution, perhaps arriving at a better solution that can become a disaster for the incumbents.

Given that cars & trucks have shown themselves to be effective weapons of death in gatherings and celebrations, is it time for background checks before selling or otherwise transferring a vehicle?

Ladino in military costume is one step extra. So cool.
U.S. service members perform 'Ocho Kandelikas' for Hanukkah

Later today, the Internet Governance Forum #IGF2024 begins in Riyadh. It's the 19th IGF, & it's still rather chaotic to navigate, even for those of us who've been there from the start. So, a thread on how to find yourself in sessions you find useful, rather than ones you regret attending...

A stray thought:
The glass ceiling for POTUS has not been broken yet.
Biden has the power to enable its breaking.
He stepped aside heroically once before.
Could he do it again?
What an event that would be!

If you put a period instead of a question mark at the end of sentence that is phrased as a question, does it remain a question or does it become a declaration about a question.

In the 1970's I was among those on the left who felt the US government needed a complete and radical overhaul.

Never would have predicted that it would be those on the right to do it.

Be careful what you wish for.
It may come with a vengeance, half a century later.

Been wearing my pink hat for years.
-7 C today.
An hour's walk & I
arrived.
Was warm and toasty from the walk.
And happy.
After about 16 minutes,
a minute of respect for each of the others there, started to get cold.
Started to walk home.
Glad I stopped by.
