This is related to one of my giga brain takes: we need to militarize the police. (I mean militarize in terms of give them non judicial punishment, actually be able to compel behaviors, generally they have the worst of both worlds; military weapons without military discipline)
it’s not popular but actual fare enforcement would help a lot. People don’t feel like there’s consequences for bad behavior when the only state presence you see is cops on their phones
Q on subway safety. What would the candidates do/non policing strategies?
Walden - deterrence/enforcement essential but shd be smarter. Issue of recidivism, use tech to find them. Better supportive services for mentally ill in stations
