In my [REDACTED] year of #iteachmath. The way I teach ≠ the way I was taught. Wondering if #mtbos should now be #mbbos.

May also find me talking about photography, the outdoors, traveling, sports, SF, & hanging with my kids. Not necessarily in that order.
I vividly remember my mind being blown the first time I saw and made sense of this picture.

I've been an @theatlantic.com subscriber since I was given a gift subscription from my dad more than 20 years ago, and this dropped the same day that right-wing media is debating whether paid sex with a 15 year old is really so bad. The last straw for me. Will not be renewing my subscription.

Intellectually, I know I shouldn't lose any sleep when I have trouble convincing some high schoolers that being kind to yourself and to one another is an important part of math. And yet...

This is the current banner on the official USDA government website.

Fascism 101 stuff.

Going to photography-nerd-out for a second. You should contact them back and let them know that while you appreciate the gift, an 8" ring light isn't going to be particularly helpful for your work and that you'd love for them to send 4 COB lights and soft boxes. 😂😂😂

What are some different ways to see that there are the same number of popped and raised bubbles in the below Pop It toy? ♾️

This is a car-brain headline. Beloved highway?

My governor, who wants nothing more than to become President, could use some moral clarity. Continue his work??? His work spouting hate that gay people should be stoned to death?

You start on a bluff and end at the bay, so I'd guess it would be an extra 150 feet of elevation gain. The SE-NW trail is a little longer with a little more elevation gain.

Did the Double-Cross Trail today which goes from the SW to NE corner of SF. It was really fun (although I'm quite sore now)! Even after living in SF for a long time, I discovered a number of new spots on this trail.

Or my photographer brain...

What does it mean for something to be red? Spoiler: there is no red pigment in this image. You can verify this by zooming in on the image.

At the Boston Museum of Science for the first time in 20 years. Since I can't really turn the teacher brain off...

Q for kids: why do you think they use two different scales for this globe (one for the size of Earth and one for elevation)?

Expectations can be a tricky thing.

Giants fans are collectively feeling much better than Dodgers fans right now.

Setting aside the fact that this is click-bait, what should/could math educators do about this dynamic?

Btw, I like the question.

Btw 2, we could just get rid of homework, but I don't actually think that would solve the underlying issue here. #iteachmath ♾️

@tgoesh.bsky.social Now I think you were right about Desmos adding a whole bunch of inference tools to set themselves up for the Stats AP.
May 14, 2025 at 2:09 PM
@desmos.com is killing me with all these new Stats feature drops when (afaik) I'm not going to be teaching stats next year. 😭

New York has less than 500 registered vehicles per 1000 residents, the lowest rate in the country. This is the issue getting you riled up?

"Snapchat CEO: I give my employees an ‘almost impossible’ task on their first day—that way, they’ve ‘already failed’ early"

Cool. Cool. I also do this with my middle and high school math students.

My tea this morning...more ellipses?! 😁

Found another interesting one...this should evaluate to pi, but I'm guessing it's returning undefined because the inside function is being rounded to a value a tiny bit smaller than -1.
February 27, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Interesting. It doesn't do this for *all* composite functions, though.
January 24, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Shouldn't the function arcsec(csc x) be undefined at x=0? Am I missing something mathy here, or is this a @desmos.com "bug"? ♾️
