This. Yes, they need to be released. But nothing will change. No one is going to be prosecuted or go to jail for any of it. At most, society might be able to topple some of these people through boycotts and shunning, but that's it.

In today's climate, speaking anything other than English is an act of rebellion. In general, though, I find a meeting of cultures adds to the beauty of the world.

Yup. Agree with OP and you. Home is (supposed to be) safety, and our place to be our full selves. When something threatens that, it is devistating. My debut novel was mostly domestic, slice-of-life stuff, and now I'm wondering if this disconnect is why it got slammed as boring by some people.
