SF newspapers have been stereotyping Chinese American voters as NIMBYs rather blatantly after Prop K but it's the same generational age divide that all other demographics deal with. When white voters have gen divides its understood in those terms but when non-whites do it its like a race thing.

beloved in your life, hopefully to grow and find peace from the mess that it is. I am extremely confident that conjuring up an AI version of my brother would've done nothing useful for me, our friends, or our parents, and if anything, would've made the whole grief thing that much more dangerous

God knows that the only times I've thought I'd had my grief under control were moments of hubris -- but I do think that the 'proper' way to go about these things, to the extent a 'proper' way exists, involves time, introspection, writing, reading, therapy, connection w/ friends and others ...

I'm very concerned that in moments of vulnerability, someone might try to use these AI mechanisms (perhaps feeding it photos, writings, social media pages, etc.) to try to be w/ someone who's no longer present, or create someone who never really existed -- one-shotting their brain w/ these delusions

They could have simply stuck by their principles: immigration needs to be orderly, yes, but by & large it is good & we need more of it. That would have 1) made them look principled even in the face of shifting public opinion, & ALSO 2) positioned them where public opinion was heading!

So now, the public is (predictably) herding *away* from Trump, toward a more sympathetic view of immigration and ... here are Dems, stuck with the panicked reactionary stances they took on the advice of the Moderate to Win bros, unable to properly ride & harness this shift.
