US/Austrian dual citizen who grew up in Austria, now living in Houston. Just want to walk/bike with kids to nearby restaurants/parks without risking our lives.
PS: @lauragmitchell.com you were right, with proper clothing I didn't even feel cold at all. Granted, it was just a 15 minute ride, but still no issue. The worst part was the strong head wind making me have to work out harder.

Considering that today it's about 5-10F cooler than predicted, should I go ahead and last minute cover up my Mandarin tree? It can handle 28F but anything lower than that is a risk ...

I agree that in theory the goals conflict. But reality for such measures will always land in the middle and achieve both simultaneously, more revenue as well as traffic reduction. Changing the toll price should allow to move that balance further towards more revenue or more traffic reduction.

Wow! I can't believe you bike through this. That wind chill must be brutal 🥶 no wonder whenever we go to cozumel in January it is 80 % people from MN and WI 😂

Nice, like street sweepers. We didn't have that in Austria, they used standard push plows. Regarding mud, I guess Minnesota winters are a lot colder. In Austria we many times hover right around the freezing mark so just the exhaust from a vehicle could melt snow and things got muddy and icky fast.

I hear you on people with mobility devices. That definitely makes a difference even with a little bit of snow, but then salt is required too because plowing alone can leave a compacted slick layer of snow and make things even slipprier to walk and roll on ...

Unfortunately not enough snow in Houston (we got lucky 2 weeks ago though and the city shut down 😁) . In Austria property owners are required to plow and salt sidewalks. The city took care of streets and multi use paths. But for snow levels under 1 inch they wouldn't even come and plow the streets.

I grew up in a lot of snow and agree when there is a lot of snow or especially if street plows push snow onto the sidewalks. But for a light snow layer as shown in the pic, I prefer to walk in the snow rather than the dirty mud left behind by plows.

Just tell me we didn't spend the day running through 6 stores looking for snow boots and river tubes for the kids in vain ❄️⛄🙏

My 6 and 3 year olds will be utterly disappointed if there is not enough snow to build a snowman on Tuesday...

With our double stroller we cant even walk by somebody walking in the other direction without someone having to step off the sidewalk.

With high fines and frequent random on board inspections by inspectors without uniforms you can get fare evasion lower than with these fare gates.

Lol what a joke. Ted Cruz left Houston for Cancun (not Aruba) AFTER the city lost power. That's different from an official happening to be on an overseas trip at a time a disaster breaks out.
