Got married at the Music Box Theater. Co-edited books about mysteries. Haven’t read War and Peace but I have seen all of Doctor Who.

I’m sure this will be the social media site to remain chill.

I have been yelling about TV Spartacus for 15 years and the latest chapter of that saga is me reviewing Spartacus: House of Ashur for What's Alan Watching??!! Enough of that Alan guy, listen to me for a change!! Gratitude!
On What's Alan Watching?, a special guest review by @moryan.bsky.social about one of her passions, the Starz gladiator drama Spartacus, which returns this week with spinoff Spartacus: House of Ashur:
Review: 'Spartacus' lives again with 'House of Ashur'
The Starz gladiator drama returns, still hornier — and more thoughtful — than you'd expect

This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will. It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.

Also, I'm posting this on a couple of places at once, but it's the beginning of October so I'm doing my usual thing where I ask for horror recommendations and I promise to watch them before the end of the month. Only rule is that I can't have seen it before.

Having a therapist who hasn’t seen any movies will probably end up being a good thing for me.

“awful people don’t deserve to be killed, but they don’t deserve to be praised, either” is apparently a thought too complex for the pundit mind

Still on my Amazon Wish List.
Eventually I want my son to learn how to read and fractions and whatever. First I’d like him to learn that it’s his hands blocking his mouth when he wants food.

Illinois is launching a first-of-its-kind legal hotline for LGBTQ+ individuals — Illinois Pride Connect.

As the only state in the nation that will provide free legal advice to protect the LGBTQ+ community, we'll help fight ignorance with information and cruelty with compassion.

Happy Gilmore 1 leaving Netflix on Friday is objectively funny. They love making sequels and then not bothering to pay enough to keep the original on the site.

To a certain kind of brain, it is easier to imagine being the savior than to understand there are times when we all need to be saved. Superman often works best as a character when you can imagine that _he_ is protecting _you_, which requires a certain degree of vulnerability.
Thinking about the moment in the new Superman where he stops a building from falling on someone and crushing them, and wondering why it was so goddamn hard to make a live action Superman movie like that.

I was fortunate enough to interview Brian Wilson and John Cusack for LOVE & MERCY, and host a Q&A at Music Box for the film. This photo was taken before the latter. Wilson was a very sweet man, but needed assistance, and I think this shot captures Cusack's affection for him. A truly great night.

A wonderful American filmmaker and professor is gone. Michael Roemer, a chronically underappreciated director whose masterpiece, Nothing But a Man, should be seen by everyone who cares about truly independent cinema, has died at 97. His work lives on, as does his influence in all those he taught.
