whether you're in montreal where aging subway cars are falling apart, or toronto where the subway is riddled with slow zones, or vancouver on a crowded bus that's long overdue to be replaced by a skytrain - we all need that funding.

and you should tell your MP that!

this is why i love hamilton 🥰 HSR should hire this man immediately. should have let that rider with expired pass on board, though.

hard to choose between rolling out a rapidbus system across the city or upzoning the entire yellowbelt for apartment buildings

it's okay to have a conservative budget if that budget is dressed in red. it's not evil when we do conservative-playbook cuts, it's necessary for the survival of this nation, i swear! 💔

i hope it gets hit by the pitch

i am of course biased to say that anyone who's a transit organizer (or any sort of socially progressive community organizer) can make an awesome mayor. much more qualified than your typical career politician or management dude who sits on corporate boards

not to say smartrack ever was a good approach to that at all, it was quite imperfect
November 12, 2025 at 12:56 AM
i think it would have always been worth some effort by the city to ensure they were getting something out of RER, and that it wasn't just a plan to upgrade 905-union station connections alone. the city should be involved in making sure it was well-integrated and worked for toronto.

smartrack did suck up a lot of discussion from the subway/LRTs the city was planning back then for nothing really, but having frequent train service on the GO lines in our city with more stations for access and integrated fares is clearly a good idea.

if only the province could take lead with that.
November 12, 2025 at 12:29 AM
has there been any progress on that one? i know announcements were made in the past couple years about bringing frequent or all day service out there, but doesn't seem to have gotten anywhere.
November 12, 2025 at 12:25 AM
it's *severely* underrated how having frequent train service on GO lines would transform travel in this city + region, and cut commute times in half, sometimes to a quarter even. hundreds of thousands of new transit riders, slashing congestion, cleaner air.

let this one station serve as an example.

they're similar cities in terms of geography (both are metro areas on a river where most people live on one side, both have city centres sandwiched by a river and large hills, both have extensive northern suburbs) so I'm amused that the system also has a similar ish shape! not intentional!
