Today, my tea ceremony group cerebrated Rikyuki, a memorial of the founder of our school, Sen no Rikyu. Some classmates received certificates from the school HQ in Japan, allowing them to continue their studies. Then, we took turns placing flowers in the alcove as a way of saying thank you to Rikyu.

Memento Mori, Memento Vivere
A poem titled “Coffee Mug” with the following text: My favorite coffee mug for a long time Was the one my brother-in-law gave me before he died. It came from the coffee shop My sister worked at during that time of life. I took it everywhere with me All up and down that campus hill. But then I tripped and fell on the library’s Cinderella stairs, And it shattered all over the ground. Oh, life is full of impermanence. Memento mori, memento vivere. Oh, that’s what makes life beautiful. Wabi sabi. That’s just the way it is.
