Community foundation gala tonight and I was asked for a cheesecake for the dessert auction. This year's edition is Hazelnut Espresso cheesecake with fresh raspberries and homemade raspberry glaze. A bit of espresso whipped cream to round it out. 5 pounds of coffee infused perfection.

Quite a quandary. I specifically was saving all of my mirror shards for my new @theonion.com tote bag and yet they specifically advise against it. I guess they stay in the silverware drawer next to the fancy shrimp forks.

It's important to do things you enjoy. This morning I baked toffee scones and I made 8 when the recipe said 12 because giant scones are fun and, I'm a loner, Dottie, a rebel.

My grandfather always had a garden and always made pickles. His parting words to anyone he knew during the late summer was, "do you need any pickles" I carried on his recipe after he passed and currently provide pickles to all who need them. And even had his hand written recipe put right on my arm.

The nice thing about living at the very end of our neighborhood is that no one else can hear the soothing sounds of Slayer coming from our patio.

My Gpa passed away about 11 years ago but his pickles live on. I have his handwritten recipe that has since been turned into some wonderful art. The Salad Shooter is a must. If it was summer, Gpa would end every conversation with, Do you need any pickles?" Thanks my dude, I miss ya

Well go figure...I did nothing to this brisket except trim and rub. No wrap, 16 hours at 225, rest in foil for 2 hours. It was one of the best I've ever made. All the meat juices followed by all the meat sweats.

Pretty awesome morning in northwest Wisconsin on this fine Sunday. After 16 hours, the brisket appears edible, but we won't know until the 2 hour rest.

I'm not handy. Today I hung a door. Then my awesome friends came over and helped hang some more doors. Our basement is nearing completion and I can't wait. Breaking bread and gaming with my tribe fills my soul with joy. Now we frolic!

Franny is using Rachel for a bed and Bruno cares very little about anything. A wonderful mellow Christmas eve before a few days of family chaos. I love my family but that many people in one place for several hours can be...a lot. But also lots of goodness.

After 3 months of science, this 15 lbs of local honey and 96 oz of blood orange puree is 3 days away from bottling. Coming in at a hearty 14% ABV, it's pretty much the best mead in the known world.
