It’s been a long US govt shutdown for nasagiss

Institutional exile from our facility by doge then months of institutional couch surfing & now the funding starvation of our research has made 2025 hard

But yesterday nyc-nasa communed on personal time

We remain ready to work for the American people

It’s high-high tide this morning uptown.

This used to be a creek bed, and the “reclaimed” land is washing back out to sea.

I ❤️ #NYC
And it’s open data.

This #CUNY interactive map to explore the election results is so cool.

Totally needed the rain today in NYC.

And

It is really coming down hard.

Band with 42.1 mm/hour !!!

The average drainage capacity of the NYC streets/sewer is 1.75 inches/hour— perilously close!

Getting in longer dog walks during day 22 of the US government shutdown during which I am on furlough.

Usually my dogs are itching to make friends with squirrels 🐿️ 🐕 😋

But today the park was curiously absent our mini furry friends.

Happy #Diwali

Also friend who treated me to this substance - spiced cotton candy addictive bliss - I thank you.

And expect you to meet me in the gym this next week as I struggle with my own personal inability to portion control myself in this stuff.

Slightly nerdy mom question::

Took my son to a tennis tournament on Randall’s Island last night — he played on green “clay” courts.

It’s not what I expected

It struck me as sand

I haven’t considered myself a geologist really in a long time- but not silty at all.

Apparently the old mines that these rails serve might reopen one day - so the #rail needs to be kept in good order.

Until then

A crawdad rejected our attempts at fishing in Vermont.

These little critters are so cool. Crayfish (folks correct me on species) are a popular cuisine of the Gulf Coast. When we visited Poland- they are a popular cuisine of Pomerania, too. It feels like one happy world to see these critters in VT

Each time I visit DC, always comparing to nyc: How many cross crossing street intersections does one town really need. Why aren’t there more folks around. Oh bc it’s annoying to cross so many intersections. Will be good to get back to NYC

But no one messed w me walking around at night by myself

Some more info about #SummerStreets #bike #bikeNYC

More topography and hills on Broadway than I realized.

Seriously get outside on your #bikenyc and #bikr or run. #summerStreets #nyc is all kinds of awesome. I’ll post a video of my full ride down Broadway from Dyckman to 110 when I get home. Perfect weather and everything today. No cars. Just people in the streets.

The rain is upon us.

Prepare for flooding.
July 31, 2025 at 6:58 PM
It was a scorcher today.
But tomorrow 7/31/25 is major rainfall #extremerain in #nyc in the afternoon through overnight.

The notify NYC says rain rates of up to 2”/hour. This is above the average drainage capacity of our nyc sewer system. (That means flooding.)

Be ready.
