there are more of us than you expect.

"Which essentially amounts to: instead of producing something flawed and human you made something that a lot of people are not going to look at out of principle, and which (having seen plenty of LLM-written text at this point) I know is just going to cap out at 'barely adequate' in quality anyway."
Really good piece about the intrusion of AI into interactive fiction spaces.

Just heard re: some ICE agents who raided a Chicago taqueria, then went back to the same taqueria for lunch the following week and got confused when the owner kicked them out, and I realized "jesus these doofuses really do believe we're all living in a video game where the NPCs have no memory"

Mirroring the video here if you don't want to even humor going onto Twitter, but when it gets into the "process" section, there's so many red flags of them lying about the work they put into the commercial that reveal how much of this video is them trying and lying after the fact.

By the way, before someone shows up and is like “gay people can be miserable too”

1. Sure
2. It happens less often at least in my queer circles because we already have to think about romance and partnership and relationship dynamics and gender a lot by virtue of being queer

But.
Straight people, for the love of everything: if you can’t stand your spouse, divorce them. Don’t do standup comedy or a YouTube series or anything normalizing being miserable in a marriage.

“My husband has me considering Acqua Tofana ha ha ha”

Hilarious!

This is horrifying, mortifying, and depressing for all involved except whichever consultant sold this as a viable idea for anywhere except possibly a pediatric long-term-care facility.
wow thanks nothing makes me want to go shop in a store more than being harassed every 30 seconds by people who will lose their livelihoods if they do not smile at me

good job Target u really figured this one out
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

"Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind", and so on. Or, to quote Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam:

"Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them."
That’s before I reckon with the ethics of using a thing for ghost efficiency that is pretty societally devastating.

And on a final personal note, I don’t want to become stupid before my time. I really don’t. I will keep mucking about so that I can keep mucking about, for as long as possible.

Zohran picked 「卓蘭」("excellent orchid") for his first name and「夸梅」("brilliant plum") for his middle name.

The orchid and the plum are among "The Four Noble Ones" in traditional Chinese art, the former symbolizing an indifference to fame and fortune, the latter an indomitable, incorruptible spirit.

"everyone is twelve now" theory actually makes a ton of sense when you think about your young adulthood and education process as an opportunity to move beyond grievances you felt when you were younger and did not understand the cause/effect of situations, power relationships, or your own emotions

In Mexico, blackouts caused by data centers destroyed people's refrigerators and oxygen equipment in hospitals, and water shortages meant toilets couldn't flush in schools.

AI is another version of colonial extraction.
“By 2035, data centers globally are projected to use about as much electricity as India…according to the International Energy Agency. A single data center can also use more than 500,000 gallons of water a day, nearly as much as an Olympic-size swimming pool.”

Robby did a day of activism in PDX, detained for an hour, claims trespass charge, is already back on a plane & has raised $75k of an absurd $110k ask.

Stop donating. This dude better be handing over a sizeable chunk of this to people who need it, like our local legal defense fund. Or its a grift.
