"You can go anywhere* in a car!"

*except where you may not park!

Which got me thinking about towns that exclude visitors to "their" beaches and amenities by controlling parking. And how some of those same people will get very huffy when they visit the city and can not park for free.
"You can go anywhere in a car!" is freedom.
"You cannot go anywhere without a car!" is not.

Not to say this project should be stopped. But behold our mayor's housing plan: Build homes for those who can not afford cars or SFHs *only* in places like I-95 and North Main St.- Sacrifice zones made dangerous and toxic by the cars of people who live where Those People are excluded.
A long-empty parking lot could soon be transformed into dozens of affordable housing units in a project that Mayor Brett Smiley has described as a “different way to subsidize” affordable housing in the city that could become a model for future development.

Mayor Brett Smiley opposes the Providence City Council plans to pass a rent control ordinance, and has said that building more housing is a better way to lower rental prices.

Tired : Injunctions and courts
Wired: Defiantly keep building them because stopping is too stupid.
Hotwired: Fool the feds into thinking the work is stopped and quietly get them built.

The revolution will not be televised.
It won't be on your phone, either.
Because your phone is not actually "Yours."

Take a good look, people. This is what the whole bay is gonna look like if these assholes get away with it.
Save The Bay denounces the CRMC Council’s continued inability to get Quidnessett Country Club to remove its illegal seawall and restore the site, granting another 30-day extension.

Now, will they stop the cowardly mush like years of calling torture "Enhanced Interrogation" and all those "Gee,What Does the Tea Party/Trump Voter really Want?" that avoid mentioning racism?

If Miriam is not also handing each taker of a free monthly bus pass the difference between $70 and what their "Free" parking space actually costs (opportunity cost of real estate + construction, maintenance, security, parking shuttle) Miriam is just making money on greenwashing here.

Blocking every news source that features a picture of Taylor Swift when reporting on anything remotely associated with Watch Hill R.I.

Some math on RI's Washington Bridge. Say 100,000 cars per day for 20 years. Bridge replacement costs an optimistic $500M. That is $1.44 per trip! Why the hell isn't there be a toll? Better yet, charge $2 during peak times now, and watch the delays disappear. 6 lanes is enough.

The difference is this. Republicans' greatest fear is the tweet that kicks them out of the gang. With few exceptions, Dems greatest fear is their megadonors closing their wallets.

Even "low-information" folks know this and you can hardly blame them for judging Dems the worse hypocrites.
How is this different than what Republican senators say about Trump

kleptocracy, gerontocracy, kakistocracy, oligarchy, plutocracy... terms that fit but don't quite capture what's special about this historical moment.

Can anyone contribute a new word for rule by bullies and abusers?

It all makes perfect sense when you know that Schumer and Jeffries consider their Job #1 to be the coddling of any megadonors that are still kicking in to the DNC.

In the early days of music streaming someone explained Pandora to me- "It learns what kind of music you like and then plays more of that." I said that sounds like the most boring thing ever. A mental doom loop. If being able to say I told you so was money I'd be rich.

A lot of people who are not bad people still think politics is just a TV show akin to pro wrestling. That's who swung the election. Old school Dems either think they ought to stay above it or they fall flat when they venture into the ring. 1/2

February 9, 2025 at 8:11 PM
So, everything the government ever did in the way of cybersecurity was like the Maginot Line because no one foresaw that a white supremacist squillionaire could just walk in the front door and hack the place to bits.

Who foresaw that the 47,000 people who would change their habits for $9 are the people who contributed way more than their share to congestion by endlessly circling for free parking and by double parking? The "I never pay for parking" types. CP working better than expected.
