Beautiful wintry morning today in Schenectady

While we are remodeling our kitchen, this Coleman stove from family camping trips of my childhood has served us well. But I am looking forward to being able to cook indoors again.

Had this whole valley in the Adirondack Forest Preserve to ourselves the whole holiday weekend. No user fees, no reservations, including a lean-to and resident (and only slightly leaky) canoe.

We also had the opportunity to see the alpine meadows in bloom. I believe these are Lapland Rosebay and Labrador Tea. These plants are abundant 1,000 or so miles north, but have been chased up the summits in New York and only found on about 80 acres of the tallest peaks in the state.

Had a lovely time in the High Peaks with my eldest child last weekend. Mount Marcy is in the distance. If you squint, you can see there was still a snowfield below the summit. Perhaps the heat wave did it in.
