We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.
The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

Whoa.
That's a sprite, an elusive, high-altitude electrical discharge from a thundercloud photographed by NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers from the ISS earlier today.
With reported sightings going back more than a century, this phenomenon was first photographed in 1989.

Looks like some possible pyroCb action today in northern SK. Environment was convectively unstable and the fires helped with the CI process. Starting to notice these situations more with all the active fires ongoing.

The gov’t now says it’ll hire 100 people back at the National Weather Service—a good first step.
But don’t be fooled: the rest of NOAA is still in disarray. You can’t forecast storms accurately without satellites, radar, and the science teams behind them.

Where does your weather forecast come from?
Whether you get your forecast from an app on your phone, a website or a meteorologist on TV, most of the underlying information comes from the federal government.

Despite the circumstances, it’s been heartening to see the support for Unidata today.
WHEN Unidata gets its $, this will be critical to help chart a course and ensure the program does the most to continue to serve the community with what it has. If you’d like to help, taking the survey really will.

This cannot be understated. The value of a forecast goes beyond an app and a chart. Mets synthesize several data sources of the complex atmosphere and boil it down into digestible information. Many people don’t understand this and take wx forecasts for granted.
One of a meteorologist’s biggest pet peeves is “my app says it’ll be ____”. Weather apps can miss so many details that a meteorologist will know.
Let’s use tomorrow in NYC — my app says it’ll be 78 degrees but rainy. But is that the full story? Spoiler alert… no, it’s not!

No Government in Canada (or anywhere) Should be Cutting Right Now
Tariffs didn't create the Great Depression, cuts and austerity did. Canada and other countries have everything they need to defend their economies if Central Banks just step up.
