for a long time doesn’t mean weird horror has existed for a long time. Just because books get published doesn’t mean weird horror gets published often, and so on. So despite having this illusion of a near infinite pool of possibility, the actual incarnations of completed work that might fulfill 🧵

spent scouring for some very specific thing that I want in the next book, and it’s often a lot harder than it should be. The reasons why are interesting and verge on modal logic. Just because there are many people doesn’t mean all or most are into weird horror, just because they have written books 🧵

There are ~1.5 English speakers in the world and people have been writing books for a long time. So you might think that you can easily just find nearly limitless quantities of books about any niche subject. But that intuition doesn’t bear out. I find that between reading books, MOST of my time is 🧵
