I think it's a reflection of just how deep the influence of billionaires has been on politics for a long time. They intentionally distract the public with both suffering and hedonism as they control politics.

I think there's extortion involved with some of his support (Epstein, for example). Those people would have to be convinced that it's worth the risk to turn against him.
