That's a sprite, an elusive, high-altitude electrical discharge from a thundercloud photographed by NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers from the ISS earlier today.

With reported sightings going back more than a century, this phenomenon was first photographed in 1989.

Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity.

What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives.

Two mallard ducks take flight in the golden light of the day’s end. I discovered this magnificent location just an hour's drive from my home and fell in love with it. It’s an unspoiled natural setting, far from human activity, yet alive with vibrant life. Many species I’m not accustomed to seeing can be found here, existing in total peace and harmony. Grebes, various types of ducks, herons, and even barnacle geese thrive amidst a symphony of frogs. It’s a truly magical experience!

Enjoying longer days this week, I visited my favorite local protected area at sundown and photographed this great cormorant, displaying beautiful white filoplumes for the breeding season!

A great cormorant is grooming itself and displaying the white feathers on its head that are characteristic of its mating plumage. It is perched on a branch above the water. In the background, the reflections of the trees from the opposite bank are visible on the surface of the pond, combining the warm yellow light of the setting sun with the bluish tint of the water.
