I just want a consistent author career. It’s my passion. It’s my dream. And this industry requires I have an agent to accomplish that. I’m seeing so many unicorns and so many authors whose agents stick with them through thick and thin, and in the end that’s all I want. I want a partner. 🧵8/

All that to say, I have so many fulls out right now and yet I can’t allow myself to get excited. This manuscript already has 10x more interest than my debut ever got, but I’m not optimistic. I’m tired. 🧵7/

And you can’t help but wonder if all the agent sees is, “Hi. No agent wanted my debut. But please look past that and evaluate this new book without judging me for having debuted with a small press.” 🧵6/

And yet, “Hi, no agent wanted to rep my debut but a small press wanted to publish it, but now I’m querying you because I want to scale my author career. I promise I’m a great writer.” 🧵5/

But also, “Hey, I got screwed by market timing last time because now there are all these time travel-esque novels coming out but I’m totally not bitter.” 🧵4/

And then, “So look at this shiny new novel I’m bringing to you, having already gone through the trad pub process once, with all the experience and knowledge I’ve gained from that. I’m a dream client.” 🧵3/

It’s like saying, “Hi there! Look how accomplished I am. Yes, the market was allergic to time travel the last time I was in the trenches, so no agent wanted it, but it has amazing trade reviews!” 🧵2/
