Proud of our work this year to make California more affordable, support workers and fight for justice. Our work continues.

California will not sit idly as its workers are systematically denied the right to organize due to employer intransigence or federal inaction. Proud to announce that AB 288 has been approved by the Legislature and now heads to the Governor.

A working stove and a working refrigerator are not luxuries - they are a necessary part of modern life. By making these necessary appliances standard in rental homes, California can provide all of its residents with a safer, more affordable and more dignified place to call home. #AB628

I am extremely concerned about the displacement of families from the Palisades and Altadena, especially families within the historically Black neighborhoods of Altadena. AB 851 is an important part of LA County’s work to rebuild from this disaster and I encourage Gov. Newsom to sign AB 851 into law.

We’re on the verge of making history. My #ab57 was just approved by the Assembly, which will create the nation’s first homeowner assistance program for descendants of formerly enslaved people. Now we need your help to encourage Governor Newsom to sign this bill into law.

California will not allow Trump to steal our democracy. This morning I stood with state legislators, congressmembers, union leaders, nonprofits & Governor Newsom to defend our democracy. This is not a drill. This ain’t Texas.

No matter how loud the hate & division gets, remember that we are always stronger when we stand together.

We do not have to choose between retaining and growing jobs in the film and television industries and increasing the diversity of its workforce.

We can and must do both.

The commitment to higher education & the grace that was offered to our public colleges and universities in the form of a zero interest loan in the 2025-26 state budget has not been shared by this body when it comes to our public TK-12 schools.

Do better.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their emancipation, marking a pivotal moment in our nation's history. Let's celebrate the strength and contributions of Black Americans, while committing to justice, equality, and unity.

The constitutional question before us is this: Can a state under the 10th Amendment step in to protect its residents from harm when the federal government fails to do so?

I would argue yes.

AB 288 protects California workers’ federal & state constitutional rights to free speech & free association

AB 57 is not only a response to a historical injustice— it is an investment in California’s economic future.

Expanding homeownership builds generational wealth, stabilizes communities and strengthens our broader economy.

LA is strong, diverse and resilient. Our resilience is our strength and we will not be intimidated by anyone threatening our peace. Including threats by this President.
