John Burton was a giant in California politics — fearless, passionate, and unapologetically committed to fighting for the most vulnerable among us. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the policies he championed, and the generations of leaders he inspired. I will miss him deeply.

I’m heartbroken to learn of the passing of Mike Rotkin today in Santa Cruz. Mike was a compassionate leader, devoted public servant, and beloved community member whose spirit and wisdom touched so many.

As a California lawmaker, I’m heartbroken and horrified by the assassination of Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in a targeted, politically motivated attack. I pray for the recovery of Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who were also shot in a separate incident.

Had a wonderful virtual Passover with my daughter and her fiancé’s family in Canada—bridging the miles with laughter, storytelling, and matzah (lots of it!). Grateful for technology that keeps us close even when we’re far apart. Hope everyone had a sweet and meaningful Pesach!
