It's that time of year again. If you're in Scotland and go see the sunrise on a partly clear morning near the Cobbler in Arrochar, you might get lucky and see the grass dramatically lit up by the sun before it hits the mountains.

You guys see it too, right?

Little blast from the past today! Ten years ago I was advertising a lecture on gravitational waves (as the Astrosoc president at Glasgow uni), not knowing they had been detected by @ligo.org already. The abstract reads very differently now!

(Maybe @uofgravity.bsky.social will enjoy this too)

The finished product!
As always, the most difficult part was knowing when to stop 😅

I hadn't painted in a *while*, but here's a WIP of a birthday card for a friend!

Happy birthday GW150914!
When you were detected I was still an undergrad looking to get into GWs for her PhD (it's important to my internal story of myself that I wanted to do this *before* the detection)
It's hard to believe how far we've come since then.

I just browsed the hashtag until I found one! I can't remember who I got it from, sorry, but here's the one I saved

There are others but Douglas Adams comes to mind, since this copy of H2G2 has been travelling with me every time I moved or went somewhere new for a long time and was scared or anxious, as a reminder to not take life so seriously (and to not panic)

Reposting this as a couple of milestones have quietly gone by without me paying too much attention.
The first one of course being 8 (!) years since GW170817. The first event I found out about after joining the LSC, still my favourite, even though I had to rewrite much of my MSc thesis over it.

The brain rot whenever I look at my cat:

If you think this was the only way in which this letter was complete chaos, my cat also stepped on the keys while I was typing

My old typewriter fell apart on me while I was typing a letter to a friend.
(relatable)
This led to an oddly artistic mess. Ran out of ink afterwards, alas, after maybe 25 years of owning it.

It was great to be able to share some of the work we've been doing on site evaluation for Cosmic Explorer at GR24/Amaldi 16 today! And how strange and wonderful to be giving a talk back in the city that was my home for such a very long time.

I was (very briefly) in Chicago recently before the Cosmic Explorer Symposium at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and man, what a pretty city it is.

It's been a while since I've made any art at all but I was looking at my old stuff ahead of this year's Amaldi conference and felt like re-sharing these cute tamagotchis since they didn't make the cut for my 3 submissions to the art gallery ✨

Feeling very old today, I finished my MSc thesis exactly 7 years ago today.
I've been doing this for HOW LONG?
