🔵 Immigrants experience difficult barriers to forming friendships with the majority. However, those who succeed have an easier time navigating society, the political rhetoric in Denmark and the increasing requirements to obtain a residence permit in the host country.

🔵 Immigrants with majority friends find it easier to feel like they belong in Denmark. But at the same time, friendships do not influence institutional trust, political interest and other views on 'The System'.

Using survey data, Danish register data and qualitative interviews, I find, among other things, that:

🔵 Immigrants with majority friends have a higher probability of being in employment and to have higher income. Friendships are particularly crucial for immigrants from the MENAPT countries.

With a year left of my PhD when I arrived in Berkeley, it was a good opportunity to really get some writing done. Besides writing a lot, I got the opportunity to present my work to different audiences, and to meet with talented scholars to discuss my work. I’m very grateful!
