Italy has better street lighting

They really should’ve built an up escalator or something! A lot of people can use escalators but just have trouble walking up stairs. The elevator can be useful for those who actually need it, such as wheelchair or bike users who have heavy bikes

Ugh yeah, they really should’ve built more elevators or built an up escalator or something.

wait they increased airtrain frequency? Since when??

oof
June 13, 2025 at 6:35 AM
yeah, also just in general we need to build a ton more living places, with a mix of hotels, apartments, etc.

In NYC, a lot of hotels were turned into homeless/migrant shelters, but that wouldn't have had to happen if there were enough shelter space in the first place

actually i think some services for parking payment and ev charging and stuff are integrated directly into iPhones so you don't actually need to download the app, you just open it up like an app when you scan a code or something

but then again, QR codes are not really secure and can be tampered with

Once we have the funds and technology to implement cleaner buses, I have nothing against it. However, it should absolutely not be a barrier against launching a much needed bus service!
June 3, 2025 at 9:02 PM
The truth is: While diesel buses may be polluting, any form of mass transit is better than private automobiles. We need to launch frequent, all day, express bus service along 680 ASAP, not waiting for an unreliable technology to come around.

With the climate crisis continuously getting worse, the goal needs to be getting people OUT of cars as soon as possible! This is preventing us from reaching our climate goals.
June 3, 2025 at 9:02 PM
All of this means a much needed connecting bus service that can't launch soon enough might never happen because of a mandate for unproven, overpriced technology.
June 3, 2025 at 9:02 PM
Lack of long term funding.

A grant would cover building the station and buying the buses. However, there’s no apparent funding for the higher operating costs afterward.
June 3, 2025 at 9:02 PM
Infrastructure costs a lot too.

Hydrogen fueling stations are expensive, take up space, and about 30–50% of the fuel would get vented and wasted because of how little County Connection would use. More money wasted when we could just use existing buses and infrastructure!
June 3, 2025 at 9:02 PM
The buses can’t even handle the route well.

The uphill slope between Dublin and Martinez makes it hard for hydrogen buses to keep 65 mph. It means that these buses won't even be able to keep up with traffic, further increasing operating costs!
June 3, 2025 at 9:02 PM
So what’s the problem with hydrogen buses? A few things:

- Each bus costs $1.6 million. A diesel bus is around $800K.
- Hydrogen fuel is 4x the cost of renewable diesel.
- New Flyer is the only company making them, moving away from a standardized Gillig fleet.

Hydrogen buses might sound great. They're good for the environment and clean, but they’re also insanely expensive and impractical.

This route could launch at any moment with regular diesel buses. Instead, we’re stuck with this requirement that doesn't help our environment.
