I was delighted to find out when I checked that I'm in a part of east Christchurch that's fine. Better than much of St Albans, and hugely better than Edgeware. It's a fascinating map

But that's what solar does. My solar prioritises real-time use, including hot water, then battery, then export. In summer I have timed hot water heating all afternoon, then from 3-5am when power is cheap. Getting a separate hot-water system would be a double up

But unless I'm missing something here, solar does solar hot water anyway. Just need your cylinder on a timer to ensure it heats when the sun is out

Can't comment on the gas side of it, but definitely do the solar. And get a battery - it makes a real difference, even if someone is home all day. All else aside, if you are on a time-of-use or free-hour plan, you can charge the battery when power is cheap to use when it's more expensive
