No idea how/when shutdown ends but newest @kff.org shows that Democrats still have advantage on health care issue for voters. www.kff.org/public-opini...

The issue now is that health care is not a standalone issue because the priority is not expanding coverage, it is about reducing cost. We have plenty of polling that shows that concerns about health care costs are intertwined with people's economic concerns including from 2024 election.

There are real consequences if Congress doesn't extend these premium tax credits for ACA marketplace plans. Four in ten of people with current marketplace coverage say they would have to forego insurance coverage in 2026

Support for Congress to extend the enhanced premium tax credits remains very high, even among Republicans and MAGA supporters.
October 3, 2025 at 1:03 PM
There has been a lot of debate around the Dem lawmakers' strategy of highlighting the end of the tax credits as part of budget talks.

It does appear that awareness is increasing - 39% say they’ve heard “a lot” or “some” – up from 27% in June 2025. But still low, especially among ACA peeps

Stopping all foreign aid spending is not a popular position among the U.S. public.

Many, including half of Republicans, want to see the U.S. scale back rather than end all spending.
March 4, 2025 at 3:42 PM
The public largely overestimates the share of the budget that goes to foreign aid. Just one in ten (11%) adults correctly say it is about one percent or less.

After hearing the amount, 34% say the U.S. is spending “too much” while two-thirds say the U.S. is spending not enough or too little.

KFF is working hard to get updated polling on so many health policy topics. First up is the public's reaction to Trump admin's actions on USAID and foreign aid funding

Most of the public thinks the downsizing of USAID will lead to increased risks to global health.

And now, about a quarter of Republican parents say they have ever delayed or skipped childhood vaccines for their children. This has more than doubled in less than four years.
January 28, 2025 at 3:02 PM
How is this all playing out in our country's public health? Let's take a look at the example of childhood vaccines.

While most believe that the benefits of childhood vaccines for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) outweigh the risks, this has declined since 2019...especially among Republicans.

Trust in health agencies and officials has long been partisan and this continues to be the case with Democrats more likely than Republicans to express trust in government institutions and federal agencies, while Republicans say they trust President Trump and his choices to oversee these agencies.
January 28, 2025 at 3:02 PM
First, there has been a considerable and steady decline in trusted sources of health information. Trust in the FDA, CDC, and state and local public health officials to make the right health recommendation has continued the decline we first saw during the COVID-19 pandemic.
January 28, 2025 at 3:02 PM
One reason why may be because large shares of the public have connections to Medicaid
January 17, 2025 at 6:00 PM
Attitudes were largely unchanged with most adults, across partisanship, saying they still think Medicare should cover the cost.

All of this is at www.kff.org/health-costs...

In KFF style, we then gave people the arguments "for" and "against" Medicare covering the cost of GLP-1s when prescribed for weight loss for people who are overweight.
November 26, 2024 at 1:40 PM
Back in June we asked people if they think Medicare drug plans should cover the cost of some GLP-1s such as Ozempic or Wegovy for obesity treatment (beyond coverage to treat diabetes or prevent heart attacks or strokes for adults with heart disease).

Most adults (61%) said yes.
November 26, 2024 at 1:40 PM
Among the 12% of adults who have ever taken GLP-1 drugs, most report taking them, at least in part, to treat a chronic condition like diabetes or heart disease, with fewer saying they took them only to lose weight.

Younger adults are more likely to say they have taken them only to lose weight.
November 26, 2024 at 1:40 PM
About one in eight adults say they have ever used GLP-1 drugs, including 6% who say they are currently using them.

It increases to:
43% of adults with diabetes,
26% with heart disease,
22% who are overweight or obese (some of whom also have diabetes or heart disease).

New from @kff.org: explore the reasons behind abortion ballot measures passing in some states (like AZ where majorities across demos voted for it and many were motivated by it) and failing in others (like SD, where only majorities of Dems voted "yes")

President-elect Trump won in 4 states where voters also chose to expand or protect abortion access, including support from about a third of those who voted in favor of abortion access in MO and at least three in ten voters in the battleground states of NV and AZ.

Latest poll from KFF is a follow-up survey to our group of women voters from earlier this summer.

Needless to say, things have changed.
