Yeah I guess I am trying to figure out the logic behind this.

It seems to be based on premises that folks pushing it don't actually believe are true.

Maybe it will exhaust the regime but I am skeptical because Trump's base is small business owners and petit bourgeoisie and they're not affected.

But I guess the question is, why go through all that if we can't assume that SNAP benefits will return and layoffs will stop?

I don't think that would have happened tbh. I think this is the least bad likely scenario that wouldn't lead to more mass starvation.
