what the formulation "israel has a right to exist" is meant to stand for is "the nation of israel has a right to define its electorate such that particular people are represented and others are not," which is something so plainly ridiculous that it cannot be stated outright.

The "bisexual" bit is a very dumb rhetorical flourish! But this, to me, is the meat of what she's saying, and I just find it hard to get het up about her saying "voters, including our base, should feel like we like them"

I'm not going to weigh in on whether McBride is ideal political representation for trans folks -- not interested, not my place -- but I do think if people are going to criticize her they should do so by sharing what she actually said

I don't think this is a genius-level insightful comment or anything: I honestly think it's a sort of clunkily-worded observation. But I also think that if Mamdani had said everything but the bisexual bit, people flatly would not be reading it in this light
